Proud Parents Welcome Britain's First Set Of 2022 Twins After Suffering Miscarriages

Two parents have spoken of their double delight after welcoming Britain's first set of twins this year in the early hours of New Year's Day. Brigitta Suha, 32, and husband Norbert, 35, are celebrating the birth of their daughters Veronika and Viktoria - who were born just 35 minutes apart on Saturday. Brigitta went into an induced labour about at 10pm on New Year's Eve at University Hospital Coventry, due to her pregnancy being high-risk. Veronika was born at 2.54am weighing 5lbs 11oz and was followed shortly by Viktoria at 3.29am weighing 5lb 3oz - becoming the hospital's first-ever set of New Year twins.

The joyous news comes after the couple, from, Leics., suffered two miscarriages in 2020 and 2021. Brigitta had a scan early in the pregnancy after fearing she was experiencing another miscarriage after experiencing bleeds. However, the couple were over-the-moon to learn there were two healthy heartbeats. The mum-of-three, who moved to England from Hungary in 2012, said: "The surprise came really early that we were having twins.

"But it was even more of a surprise to have them born on New Year's Day. "It has been amazing to find out that we were the first twins of 2022. It will be a nice story to tell them when they get older. "Having being born on New Year's Day, it is certainly and birthday I will not forget. "I had my daughter, Bernadett in 2019, and then after that, unfortunately, I suffered two miscarriages, one in 2020 and another in 2021.

"I went into Coventry early on in this pregnancy because I was bleeding and was rushed in for scans and found out we were having twins. We were really happy but scared too. "Obviously because we were having twins, and I was high risk of pregnancy, we had to be careful and go for extra scans and meetings. "The NHS policy with twins is to induce them at 37 weeks, Their due date was January 20 but I went into labour on New Year's Eve at 10pm. "Obviously, at the time, you are not thinking could this be the first birth of the new year. "But the birth of both Veronika and Viktoria went really well, they were both natural births - we are both so happy even though I know we'll certainly have our hands full." Brigitta, who works in finance, said added: "We had two midwives with us and the health care assistant, who were all amazing. "With Covid restrictions in place at the hospital, the staff were so helpful and it was a nice experience. "They made us feel really welcome. We were really worried about covid, but in the end, it was fine. "We were in a twin delivery room so my husband could be there with us. The staff at the hospital were just as happy as us by the looks of it.
