'I Found Out That I Actually Have Two Vaginas While Giving Birth To My Son'

AS we're sure all mums will agree, you only really appreciate how amazing the human body is after giving birth. For American mum Brittany Jacobs, welcoming her son into the world also involved making a HUGE discovery about herself.

Last month, the mum-of-two took part in a TikTok trend where people have been sharing the things doctors have "completely ignored when there was clearly something wrong". In a viral video which has racked up over 546,000 "likes", Brittany revealed the reason why she "owned" this trend. She explained: "I’ve always considered myself to have a really high pain tolerance but my periods were so bad I would cry, I always bled out of my tampons." When she was 25-year-old and pregnant with her first child, Brittany noticed that she was only carrying her bump on one side.

Listing her other symptoms, the mum said she had "two separate periods" a month and "sex was really painful". Although Brittany had smear tests done before giving birth, it was only while she was in labour that a nurse noticed that she had TWO vaginas. The mum continued: "The nurse looks down and goes, 'oh honey - you have two vaginas, two cervixes and two uteruses.' "And for 25 years, no one noticed and no one knew." After giving birth, Brittany was diagnosed with a rare condition called uterine didelphys - where the uterus fails to fuse properly during development in the woman. In a separate video, Brittany explained how she only has one opening but there is a septum - like what you find in your nose - which leads to the separate cervix and uterus. She continued: "I always thought it was a hymen and I guess that’s what my husband assumed it was too. "And when we discovered he was deployed and he was on Skype and he was like, ‘Oh that makes a lot of sense, sex with you is really painful for me too.'" During the birth of her first son, the septum was blocking the baby's head - meaning he "didn't have enough room to come out". Although she was given the option of a C-Section, Brittany decided to have the septum cut instead . She continued: "The septum went all the way up so I had stitches all the way up once they cut it. My son came out and there was little scratches on his back from the stitches." What's more, having the septum cut also eased a lot of Brittany's other symptoms and has since fallen pregnant on the same side again. The mum added: "I’ve been pregnant for basically two years and it was both on the same side so I have no idea if my other side is fertile or not."
