A woman who almost ᴅɪᴇᴅ giving birth to her ‘ᴍɪʀᴀᴄʟᴇ’ baby has been told she will ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ʙᴇ ᴀʙʟᴇ ᴛᴏ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴄʜɪʟᴅʀᴇɴ again. Holly Campbell-Carden, from Clydach Vale, woke from a ʜᴀʀʀᴏᴡɪɴɢ 12 hours in sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ to discover she’d been given ᴀ Fᴜʟʟ ʜʏsᴛᴇʀᴇᴄᴛᴏᴍʏ after ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs ᴄᴀᴜsᴇᴅ her to ʟᴏsᴇ 10 ʟɪᴛʀᴇs of ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ. The 29-year-old ᴄᴏᴍᴍᴜɴɪᴛʏ ᴅᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ɴᴜʀsᴇ had to have sᴇᴠᴇʀᴀʟ ᴛʀᴀɴsFᴜsɪᴏɴs and has ᴘʀᴀɪsᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴇ sᴛᴀFF at Pʀɪɴᴄᴇ Cʜᴀʀʟᴇs Hᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ ɪɴ Mᴇʀᴛʜʏʀ TʏᴅFɪl for sᴀᴠɪɴɢ both her ʟɪFᴇ and that of her long-awaited baby boy Rupert.
Holly said :” My husband Rory and I had been trying to have children for seven and a half years but ᴅᴜᴇ to me having ᴘᴏʟʏᴄʏsᴛɪᴄ ᴏᴠᴀʀʏ sʏɴᴅʀᴏᴍᴇ, as well as other sᴛɪʟʟ ᴜɴᴅɪᴀɢɴᴏsᴇᴅ ɪɴFᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴛʏ ɪssᴜᴇs, we’d had ɴᴏ ʟᴜᴄᴋ. So we got a referral from our GP and started getting help with the problem about five years ago only to give up just before Cᴏᴠɪᴅ started.” They ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ was immediately successful as the couple ended up with four ᴇᴍʙʀʏᴏs, three of which were Fʀᴏᴢᴇɴ while one was transferred to Holly’s ᴜᴛᴇʀᴜs. But the ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ would ɴᴏᴛ be without sᴇʀɪᴏᴜs ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs. She said: “I had a very ʙɪɢ ʙʟᴇᴇᴅ five weeks in, which made us think we’d ʟᴏsᴛ the baby. Luckily that wasn’t the case although I also later sᴜFFᴇʀᴇᴅ with ʜɪɢʜ ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ ᴘʀᴇssᴜʀᴇ and ɢᴇsᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟ ᴅɪᴀʙᴇᴛᴇs”.
She added, the latter of which being when excess ɢʟᴜᴄᴏsᴇ ᴅᴇᴠᴇʟᴏᴘs ᴅᴜʀɪɴɢ ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ. She also ᴅᴇᴠᴇʟᴏᴘᴇᴅ ᴘᴏʟʏʜʏᴅʀᴀᴍɴɪᴏs – a ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ where excess Fʟᴜɪᴅ ʙᴜɪʟᴅs up in the ᴜᴛᴇʀᴜs, sᴜʀʀᴏᴜɴᴅɪɴɢ the baby. So, last Wednesday, the decision was made that she chose to give birth ᴠᴀɢɪɴᴀʟʟʏ. However, the process was ɴᴏᴛ Fᴀᴠᴏʀᴀʙʟᴇ and as a result, she had to ᴜɴᴅᴇʀɢᴏ ᴀ ᴄᴇsᴀʀᴇᴀɴ sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ. What is more, no matter how much she ᴘᴜsʜᴇᴅ the baby would ɴᴏᴛ move, which started ᴄᴀᴜsɪɴɢ his ʜᴇᴀᴅ ᴛᴏ sᴡᴇʟʟ. So the ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀs decided to give an ᴇᴍᴇʀɢᴇɴᴄʏ ᴄᴇsᴀʀᴇᴀɴ sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ. He was 7lbs 1oz. She also remember her husband getting very emotional. Holly was moved to intensive care later that evening only to end up being taken back down to theatre with more ʜᴀᴇᴍᴏʀʀ ʜᴀɢɪɴɢ. She ʟᴏsᴛ 10 litres of ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ and needed sᴇᴠᴇʀᴀʟ ᴛʀᴀɴsFᴜsɪᴏɴs. She was in theatre for about 12 hours in total. She said :”To be only 29 and told I’ll ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴀɴᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴄʜɪʟᴅ, it’s ᴅᴇᴠᴀsᴛᴀᴛɪɴɢ”. And theᴡᴏʀsᴛ news was to come when Holly finally woke up. The ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄs had been left with no choice but to give her ᴀ Fᴜʟʟ ʜʏsᴛᴇʀᴇᴄᴛᴏᴍʏ, meaning her ᴜᴛᴇʀᴜs and ᴄᴇʀᴠɪx had been ʀᴇᴍᴏᴠᴇᴅ.
She added :” There is some comfort in knowing we still have three ᴇᴍʙʀʏᴏs Fʀᴏᴢᴇɴ. That way if we ever want to try again ʙɪᴏʟᴏɢɪᴄᴀʟʟʏ we can with the help of a sᴜʀʀᴏɢᴀᴛᴇ. I was keen to praise the team at Pʀɪɴᴄᴇ Cʜᴀʀʟᴇs Hᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ who worked so hard to deliver baby Rupert and sᴀᴠᴇ her ʟɪFᴇ . If it wasn’t for them I would never have got to meet my little boy and my husband would’ve been made a ᴡɪᴅᴏᴡᴇʀ at the same time he became a dad. I can’t thank them enough.” Those were the words from the bottom of her heart after successfully Fɪɢʜᴛɪɴɢ the ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀ.
