Mum Gives Birth To 13lb ‘Hercules’ Son Who Is Twice The Size Of Normal Babies

This newborn is the size of an 11-week-old baby and he was only born a few days ago. Tobias was so big strangers actually thought his mum was carrying a set of twins when she was pregnant. He weighs an eyewatering 13lb 7oz, which is double the size of an average newborn (7lb 6oz ). Somehow his mum Nicolina Newcome, 33, managed to give birth to him in Hamilton, New Zealand, without a caesarean section or epidural on May 1.

Doctors didn’t think Tobias would be so big and a team of them had to intervene when his shoulder got trapped while he was being delivered, the New Zealand Herald reported. Mum-of-two Ms Newcome added: ‘Heaps of doctors came in and helped pull him out. ‘Everybody was like, ‘wow, what a big baby’ and ‘how big is he’; everyone was really shocked.’ Ms Newcome was also shocked by the size of Tobias and was forced to go back out and buy new clothes for him because the ones she had did not fit.

She revealed strangers had asked her ‘have you got twins in there?’ when she was pregnant. Tobias also kicked hard when he was in her tummy, which suggested he was a big boy. Doctors tested his mum for diabetes, which can make babies larger, but she was negative. Ms Newcome and Tobias’ dad aren’t particularly tall so that doesn’t explain his weight. The Guiness Book of Records lists the largest baby ever born as 22lb Babe who died 11 hours after he was delivered in Ohio, in 1879.
