Mum Gave Birth To Baby In Bereavement Room After Contracting Coronavirus

Claire Trusson, 37, ʙᴀᴛᴛʟɪɴɢ ᴄᴏʀᴏɴᴀᴠɪʀᴜs has given birth to a ‘ᴍᴀɢɪᴄ’ ⒾⓋⒻ baby six weeks ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ. She welcomed her first child in ᴄɪʀᴄᴜᴍsᴛᴀɴᴄᴇs she never could have expected, giving birth in a ʙᴇʀᴇᴀᴠᴇᴍᴇɴᴛ ʀᴏᴏᴍ while sᴜFFᴇʀɪɴɢ from ᴄᴏʀᴏɴᴀᴠɪʀᴜs.

Claire Trusson, Fᴇʟʟ ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ after having ⒾⓋⒻ ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ following two years of sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟɪɴɢ to start a family with husband Murray Mitchell, 33. She so happy to finally be ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ, but just weeks before she was ᴅᴜᴇ she began to experience ᴄᴏʟᴅ sʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍs and went into ɪsᴏʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ until she started ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴇɴᴄɪɴɢ ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴs. She ᴛᴇsᴛᴇᴅ ᴘᴏsɪᴛɪᴠᴇ Fᴏʀ ᴛʜᴇ ᴠɪʀᴜs just one week before she gave birth to baby Jake six weeks before his ᴅᴜᴇ date. The ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀs had to put her in the mostɪsᴏʟᴀᴛᴇᴅ ʀᴏᴏᴍ on the ward to ᴋᴇᴇᴘ ʜᴇʀ ᴀᴡᴀʏ Fʀᴏᴍ all others, which turned out to be the ʙᴇʀᴇᴀᴠᴇᴍᴇɴᴛ ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀʏ ʀᴏᴏᴍ. She said :” I found out that’s the ʙᴇʀᴇᴀᴠᴇᴍᴇɴᴛ ʀᴏᴏᴍ , that’s where they put families with their sᴛɪʟʟʙᴏʀɴ babies so they can have some time with them. They have a memorial clock on the wall, and because I was timing my ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴs when I was first in there, I spent a lot of time staring at that clock. I found it ǫᴜɪᴛᴇ ᴄᴏᴍFᴏʀᴛɪɴɢ in a way it’s so full of love. I did think at one point, ‘it’s a strange choice to have a memorial clock in a ʀᴏᴏᴍ where women are ʟᴀʙᴏᴜʀɪɴɢ.’ But in the scheme of things, I am super lucky , I’m well, he’s well and really it’s amazing. In a way, I am really grateful that I didn’t have another six weeks of ᴀɴxɪᴇᴛʏ of what giving birth would look like.”

However a week later, on 30 March, Claire’s ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴs became more frequent, and she returned to the same ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ. By the time she made it back to the ɪsᴏʟᴀᴛᴇᴅ ʙᴇʀᴇᴀᴠᴇᴍᴇɴᴛ sᴜɪᴛᴇ, the ᴍɪᴅᴡɪFᴇ could see the ʙᴀʙʏ’s ʜᴇᴀᴅ. Claire said: ” I didn’t want to go back into ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ. I knew from when I had been there, I felt like ᴀ ʙɪᴛ ᴏF ᴀ ᴅʀᴀɪɴ on them. They’ve got babies ʀᴜsʜɪɴɢ in and you’ve got the ᴍɪᴅᴡɪᴠᴇs sᴛᴜᴄᴋ in with me having to ᴘᴇᴇʟ ᴏFF ᴛʜᴇɪʀ ⓅⓅⒺand ᴡᴀsʜ ᴛʜᴇɪʀ ʜᴀɴᴅs ten times. Mɪᴅᴡɪᴠᴇs need to be able to run in and out and help people when they need to help people.”

Thankfully, She was ᴀʙʟᴇ ᴛᴏ sᴀFᴇʟʏ ɢɪᴠᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ to a boy, Jake. On the way home from ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ, Jake met his grandmother Angela and uncle David through the car window. Claire added: “Every ʟɪᴛᴛʟᴇ sɴᴇᴇᴢᴇ and every ʟɪᴛᴛʟᴇ ᴄᴏᴜɢʜ and every ʟɪᴛᴛʟᴇ ᴄʀʏ, I ᴊᴜᴍᴘ on him like ‘ᴏʜ ɢᴏᴅ, you’ve got ᴄᴏʀᴏɴᴀᴠɪʀᴜs. It sounds ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ ʀᴇᴄᴋʟᴇss, but it’s really ʜᴀʀᴅ to look after a baby and them ɴᴏᴛ sᴇᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀ Fᴀᴄᴇ and I didn’t really have any Fᴀᴄᴇ ᴍᴀsᴋs. I’m just trying not to ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜᴇ ᴏɴ ʜɪᴍ.”
