A Mom Gives Birth to Extremely Rare Quadruplets

The chances of naturally ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠɪɴɢ quadruplets is one in 700,000, while a majority of quadruplets are ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ with the help of ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ ᴛᴇᴄʜɴᴏʟᴏɢʏ. But Madison Collier’s naturally ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠɪɴɢ quadruplets, two boys and two girls are ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴀʟ twins. The chances of that happening are more than 1 in 15 million.

The couple Collier and her husband Justin, 34, had planned to have only two kids, but that changed when she went to her ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀ’s appointment. Collier said she wasn’t on ғᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴛʏ ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛs and she doesn’t have ᴀ ʜɪsᴛᴏʀʏ of multiples in her family, so when the ᴜʟᴛʀᴀsᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴛᴇᴄʜɴɪᴄɪᴀɴ told her she was going to have four babies, it was quite a surprise. Collier said:” At my eight-week appointment in April, I don’t think I’ll ever fully get over the sʜᴏᴄᴋ. At first, I said, the ᴛᴇᴄʜɴɪᴄɪᴀɴ was quiet, so I asked if the baby was alright. He said, ‘Yeah, the baby’s OK.’ And then he said, ‘There’s just more than one,’. I started kind of ᴘᴀɴɪᴄᴋɪɴɢ. Then, I told the ᴛᴇᴄʜɴɪᴄɪᴀɴ it wasn’t a funny joke. He was like, ‘I’m not joking.’ And he counted them on the screen for me. And there they were. I know it’s silly, but I was like, They come in more than that? And I know that they do, but you just never think it would happen to you.”

It happened naturally, and ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀs think the two boys and two girls are ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴀʟ twins. The chances of that happening are more than 1 in 15 million. Justin said:”The ᴏᴅᴅs are ᴄʀᴀᴢʏ! We did play the lottery the next day and we got the Powerball and the number was four, but that’s the only number we got, but that’s kind of cool.” Collier the ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ was challenging but exciting. Looked like she was full term around 22 weeks. Madison Collier’s due date was Nov. 26, but these little babies decided they wanted to meet their parents and big sister a lot sooner than that. The four babies were born at 28 weeks and spent two months in the ⓃⒾⒸⓊ before they all got the clearance to go home different days this week.

Collier, who is also the mother of 4-year-old Isla, said that life with four more children is not easy. She said:” Feeling four babies at once was really cool. When you’re turning, it feels a little bit like you’re on a rollercoaster. I will definitely miss feeling four babies at once. If they were all lined up, I am not sure I can tell them apart. One time I held the two girls and thought, I don’t know . We use wrist bands and ᴘᴀᴄɪғɪᴇʀ ᴄʟɪᴘs with the babies’ names on them to keep them straight. Now we’re dealing with the other logistics, like how many diapers four newborns go through. They say it could be 40-ish a day, about 10 per day, but from what we have seen we think it could be more, because they are ᴘᴏᴏᴘɪɴɢ ᴍᴀᴄʜɪɴᴇs.”

The Collier family says they are also worried about sleep. It’s going to be loud at the Collier house now, but it will also be filled with love. They took a long time to figure out the names. Naming one baby can be tough and Collier said she wanted them to be unique. The quadruplets very sweet. They get lots of love from their big new siblings.
