'I Got Pregnant Twice On The Pill And Again After Hubby Had Snip I'm Getting

A mum-of-five has vowed to get sterilised after falling pregnant twice while on the pill and once after her husband had a vasectomy.

Kate Harman, from Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, claims she has had the "worst luck ever" with contraception after her hub Dan got a vasectomy in July 2015 - but she still fell pregnant three years later.

After they'd recovered from the shock of the surprise pregnancy, they took a home fertility test, which revealed Dan's sperm count was completely normal despite the procedure, which is thought to have a 99% success rate.

Tragically, Kate miscarried, but the pair took the pregnancy as a sign and tried again. Soon after, Kate became pregnant with their "miracle baby" Buddy, who is now two.

Although the pair were over the moon to welcome their son into the world, Kate, 39, has decided it's time to look into sterilisation. If she falls pregnant again, then "it's meant to be."

Kate said: "The chances of having another baby after the vasectomy, and then having the miscarriage, I just think he is my miracle baby.

"I think we could definitely be the most unlucky couple when it comes to contraception, that's why I'm getting sterilised."

After her little surprise, Kate and Dan went on to have Alfie, now 14, and Stanley, now eight, who were both planned.

After giving the pill a miss for several years, doctors encouraged her to go back on it after Stanley was born - so she decided to give it another try.

But six months later, she fell pregnant against the odds once again, and eventually gave birth to her daughter, Lottie, now seven.

"Because we'd had our little girl who was also a surprise, I said 'I'm not going on any more birth control, I'm done'," Kate explained.

It was then that Dan opted to have the snip - and had a tough time in recovery.

"He was in a lot of pain as you can imagine a man going on and on about it. I was just like 'I've pushed four babies out, man up'," Kate joked.

"He was meant to send a specimen off to get his sperm count checked and I was on his case all the time saying 'get it checked, you've got to send it off' and he was like 'no, the doctor said it's 99.9% effective, I'm ok'."

Sure that they were protected, the pair continued having sex as normal for three or four years. But when Kate's period was late, she was concerned.

"My twin sister said to me 'you're pregnant' and I said 'no I'm not, I can't be pregnant, Dan's had the vasectomy'," Kate recalled.

But just to be sure, she took a pregnancy test the next day - and it was positive.
