A couple is preparing to welcome 15th child after already having quints, triplets and twins. And they feel that the life of ᴀ ʟᴀʀɢᴇ family is ᴄʜᴀᴏᴛɪᴄ, they are getting used to it.
Karen, 40, and Deon Derrico, 49 from Las Vegas welcomed four sets of multiple births back to back. First came twins Dallas and Denver, 10, followed by Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Daician and Daiten, 8. Karen then delivered twins Diez and Dior, 3, who are often referred to as the “ᴛʀɪᴘʟɪɴs” ᴀs ᴛʀᴀɢɪᴄᴀʟʟʏ their triplet brother Carter, who ᴘᴀssᴇᴅ ᴀᴡᴀʏ ᴊᴜsᴛ a couple of hours after ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀʏ . While all of the Derrico children are given names beginning with ‘D’, Carter was the ᴇxᴄᴇᴘᴛɪᴏɴ as his parents wanted to give him a special and different name. And in 2019 Karen and Deon became parents again, welcoming triplets Dawsyn, De’Aren, and Dyver, rounding off their brood to 14. Karen said :”All of whom were ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ ɴᴀᴛᴜʀᴀʟʟʏ . We both have ᴍᴜʟᴛɪᴘʟᴇs on both sides of our family. But we have the most ᴍᴜʟᴛɪᴘʟᴇs that anyone has ever heard of. After our ᴏʟᴅᴇsᴛ, I had two ᴍɪsᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇs. Once I became ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ, the ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀ started me ᴏɴ ᴘʀᴏɢᴇsᴛᴇʀᴏɴᴇ ᴛᴏ sᴜsᴛᴀɪɴ ᴍʏ ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ. But all of our children were ɴᴀᴛᴜʀᴀʟʟʏ ᴄᴏɴᴠɪɴᴄᴇd. Not one round of ⒾⓋⒻ.”
The reason the couple have ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ so many ᴍᴜʟᴛɪᴘʟᴇs is ᴅᴜᴇ to Karen’s ᴏᴠᴇʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ ᴏᴠᴀʀɪᴇs , which ᴄᴀᴜsᴇs the ʀᴇʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴏғ ᴍᴜʟᴛɪᴘʟᴇ ᴇɢɢs ᴘᴇʀ ᴄʏᴄʟᴇ . Now the couple have revealed they may be welcoming a 15th child to the family. Deon can be seen questioning Karen about her weird food cravings as she munches on pickles. She said: “The pie smell is making me sɪᴄᴋ”, before a ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇʀɴᴇᴅ Karen checks her calendar and realises her ᴘᴇʀɪᴏᴅ ɪs ᴀ ᴡᴇᴇᴋ ʟᴀᴛᴇ. Deon then demands she takes a test, with his mum adding: “When is the line drawn, for real?” She later adds: “Not another baby. It’s overwhelming with the ones that are here.” The couple are yet to officially announce another ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ. The couple admit they have their “good days and ʙᴀᴅ ᴅᴀʏs”, but say there’s always enough love to go round. They say they had to find creative ways to keep their kids busy during ᴛʜᴇ ᴘᴀɴᴅᴇᴍɪᴄ.
Karen said :”So we do sᴄᴀᴠᴇɴɢᴇʀ ʜᴜɴᴛs and we do learning games and things like that and we do a talent show. And we ᴡʀᴇsᴛʟᴇ a lot. Boys ᴀɢᴀɪɴsᴛ the girls, the ᴏʟᴅᴇʀ ᴏɴᴇs ᴀɢᴀɪɴsᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ʏᴏᴜɴɢᴇʀ ᴏɴᴇs.” Parents Karen and Deon Derrico get their 14 children ready to start their day, but it’s no easy task. She said :”Mornings here at the Derricos house, it’s like a ballet. It’s ᴄʜᴀᴏᴛɪᴄ. We have to constantly be on them: ‘Have a seat, eat your breakfast, let’s get everything together. It’s definitely a job when they get down. Making sure everyone is dressed and fed can feel like an Olympic sport at times, an expensive one. The amount of money that we spend on groceries, oh my gosh. $2,500-$3,500 a month, easy. In a week we go through 15 boxes of waffles, 20 rolls of toilet paper.”
But Karen isn’t ʀᴇsᴇɴᴛғᴜʟ. She added:”This is us, this is our life. We chose to have ᴀ ʟᴀʀɢᴇ family, we also chose to make sure that we can provide for our ʟᴀʀɢᴇ family.”
