Blind Mom Sees Her Newborn Baby for the First Time

Kathy Beitz is 29-year-old and she has been legally blind since she was a child. When she was 11, she was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a disorder that causes gradual loss of vision.

But with the help of eSight glasses, a new technology that helped her regain her eyesight, she is able to see the birth of her own son. It’s hard to imagine how it must feel for someone blind to see the miracle they’ve created for the first time.

While she now has some peripheral vision, she developed a blind spot in the centre of her field of vision and is legally blind.

The special glasses developed by the firm eSight is equipped with a video camera from which the images are enhanced and projected onto high definition screens in front of the eyes.

At a cost of $15,000, the device doesn't come cheap, however, the company has a fundraising department that helps people purchase the glasses.  About 140 people have eSight glasses in North America.
