Best Friends Who Fell Pregnant Together For The Second Time Give Birth Just Two Days Apart At The Same Hospital

Two best friends who gave birth just two days apart have detailed the friendship that saw them experience pregnancy together for a second time.

When Shauna Wheeler, 41, and Ivy Chichester, 37, from Richmond, Virginia, discovered they were both pregnant again, they were shocked.

The two moms and best friends previously found out they were expecting at the same time, with their first children born just a week apart.

But during their second time around, the pair says they encountered a truly serendipitous experience.

In an interview with Today, Ivy and Shauna described the jaw-dropping and comforting moment they discovered they were both expecting again.

'A week before [Ivy] actually confirmed she was pregnant she was saying she might be pregnant. I kind of snickered, because I feel like people always think that, but at the time it had been so early for her to have symptoms for real,' Shauna said.

Ivy told Today said she knew she was expecting, adding she 'felt that egg implant.'

She explained that the possibility of her being pregnant came as a surprise and she had 'mixed emotions' about the idea of welcoming another child, so Shauna advised she 'give it a couple of days' and 'don't stress yourself out.'

Just a week later, Ivy confirmed she was pregnant and told her group of friends who she refers to as her 'mom tribe.'

Unbeknownst to Ivy, at the same time, Shauna also suspected she may have a child on the way.

After she confirmed she had a bun in the oven, Shauna shared the news with Ivy.

'I told her, "I know that you're apprehensive about it, but hopefully the fact that we're doing this together can help both of us with our anxieties about being pregnant,"' Shauna said.

And while Ivy was anxious about having another baby, Shauna had her own fears too.

Shauna explained she feared she wouldn't be able to carry another pregnancy to full term because after having her first child, she suffered a miscarriage.

'It was just so nice to truly have a judgment-free zone where I could talk about whatever I was feeling and have that mental and emotional support from my village,' Ivy told Today.

'Those conversations helped me through the struggles, and because Shauna was pregnant we could support each other on a slightly bigger level because we were both going through it at the same time.'

Shauna scheduled her C-section on December 12, while Ivy planned to give birth sometime during early December.

During the first week of that month, Shauna was undergoing a routine check-up appointment when doctors voiced their concerns about her high-blood pressure.

Next thing she knew, she was sent to the labor and delivery room for monitoring, and she soon informed her 'mom tribe' her baby was on its way.

Shauna gave birth to her baby on December 5 and two days later, Ivy's newborn arrived.

'It felt surreal, but also right. It felt like we were meant to be at the hospital at the same time and we were meant to have our babies around the same time and that our friendship was meant to be,' Ivy explained.

And their pregnancies are not where the best friend's happy accidents end.

Shauna gave birth to her now two-year-old daughter one week before Ivy welcome her son.

In addition to having children close in age, Shauna's birthday is the same day as Ivy's sister's birthday.

Furthermore, the travel agent who booked Shauna's honeymoon is even related to Ivy's husband.

Even before the arrivals of their new babies, the expectant moms joked about being in the hospital at the same time while giving birth.

But they never imagined giving birth just two days apart and two rooms away from each other.

The best friends met in April of 2021 through an app known as Peanut, which helps moms meet other moms.

Ivy had just settled in Richmond after moving a lot due to her job in sales.

Because of her new move, she felt lonelier than ever and wanted to find relationships with other moms, and then came Shauna who she 'just clicked' with.

Just over a year later, the moms have a 'village' of six friends who are also parents - all within the same age and all women of color - who they describe as 'everything.'

Ivy added that the relationships have been 'so impactful for my mental health.'

And after giving birth to both sets of their children around the same time, they are hopeful their children will follow in their footsteps and become lifelong friends.
