Baby's Development in the Womb: 28-32 Weeks Pregnant

Joseph MurphyMD OB/GYN: At 29 to 32 weeks, the baby weighs in between two and a half, and three and a half pounds. The baby at this point has reached what we call viability which mean it has the capability to survive.

Stella DantasMD OB/GYN: It's continuing to get bigger and stronger. It also is starting to practice breathing, and the way a baby breathes in utero is it breathes in and out amniotic fluid.

[Dr. Murphy] The baby's lungs are getting ready to exchange oxygen.

Stella DantasMD OB/GYN: And the baby's still moving around, but it's running out of room. So it may not have as big of movements at this time. But you'll still be feeling about five movements an hour, except for when the baby's sleeping.
