Baby-Friendly Caesarean Birth

This short film has been made to show what you can do to give your baby the best possible start at a caesarean Section. This video also shows skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby, and delayed cord clamping at a caesarean birth.

The following two actions can make a big difference to the health of your baby:
1 - Wait at least a minute before clamping and cutting the baby's cord.
2 - Enable skin-to-skin as soon as possible after the birth (this is also known as Kangaroo Care)

Waiting a minute before clamping and cutting your baby's cord helps:
- Restore your baby's blood volume to normal levels.
- Prevent iron deficiency anaemia.
- Prevent serius illnes for premature babies.

Immediate Kangaroo Care (Skin-to-skin) helps:
- Regulate your baby's heart rate, breathing, temperature and blood sugar.
- You and your baby to feel close.
- Your baby to recieve good bacteria.
